What Does a Question Look Like?

Troy Schubert asked me this… “what does a question look like? I mean a beautiful question. The kind that opens the sky in one’s mind to emptiness and a sense of abundance & freedom. That kind of question…”
Here’s an answer…
Beautiful questions make us pause. They move us somehow. They startle us and wake us up. We feel more open to possibility – “a sense of abundance & freedom.” They can give us hope and resolution.
Beautiful questions more often than not create more questions as a Beautiful Question is often so expansive and bigger than us that it is impossible to have one answer.
So we ask more questions, pause again, keep searching for more connections – until we find another rare and beautiful question to inspire more questions.
A possibility – not an answer.

Wow, yes…so well done! It’s like fireworks or whack-a-mole. Or a loon. Have you ever watched a loon dive and you don’t know where she went and so you soften your gaze across the expanse of the water to watch it all at the same time and then suddenly there she is in some new and unexpected place? Like that.

What a lovely musing on questions. I have always enjoyed Warren Berger’s work on questions and while it’s perhaps not as philosophical as this post, he does use the term “beautiful questions” and challenges us to work toward asking them!
